There is no fixed law that says that you have to change gears when you're at the max rpm, or that you have to change down when you're at X rpm. A rebel 300-500 sure is enough to cruise around on the highway, but the 750-Shadows got that V-twin-engine which means you can roll around with low RPMs and hear the engine go potato-potato:D Either way, I would suggest you take a look at the recommended "beginner"-cruisers (the ones I mentioned beforehand) and test-ride as much as you can
