The conversion syllabus was designed for the new MiG-29 pilot to walk out the other end as a MiG-29 flight lead. After my last syllabus sortie I was asked if I wanted to lead a 4 MiG-29s versus 4
In a missile fight neutral merge 29 vs 18 both properly flown. The 29 can get a 73 off before the 18 can get a 9x off. But there's more to it then just pulling back on the stick. Gotta be at the right speed, and use both air brake and thrust at the same time to varying degrees depending on speed/alt/AoA.
The radar version, R-27R is nowhere near as good as AIM-7F/M + MiG-29's radar is utter garbage compared to F-14 and F-16. So basically MiG-29 is worse in both close and long range combat. the mig 29 is not the best option. Allow me to explain myself before you downvote. The mig29 is an air superiority fighter most comparable to the f16, and as such is highly maneuverable. That combined with decent radar and the archer missile would make the mig 29 unparalleled in both dogfight capability and with the radar missiles one of the
But what is the MiG-29 and how does it compare to other fighters, like the Russian SU-57, the F-35 Lightning and the F-16? MiG-29. First operational in 1985, the MiG-29 is a single-seat, twin-engine air-to-air fighter, but would likely be defeated in a dogfight by more sophisticated Russian aircraft, such as the fifth-generation SU-57.
